The Detention Division is commanded by Captain David Jones and consists of the County Jail, Prisoner Transportation, and Court Security sections.

Captain Jones has lived in Brevard since 1976. He served in the 502nd MP Detachment of the US Army from 1961 to 1964, as a police officer for the Leakesville (now Eden) Police Department from 1964 to 1966, as a state trooper with the NC Highway Patrol assigned to Ashe County from 1966 to 1976, as a special agent with the NC State Bureau of Investigation from 1976 to 1990 assigned to Transylvania, Henderson, and Polk counties, and as Chief Jailer of the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office from 1990 to present. Captain Jones holds Jailer certification and Advanced Law Enforcement Officer certification.
